It’s amazing the random stuff you learn over the Internet just by visiting the Yahoo search engine. On its homepage alone, there a sensory overload of news items – anything from movie trivia to historical facts. This morning, I found a health article (and several others) that I thought was worth sharing, so voila…thus was born a new segment called…Yahoo, Randomness!

Only a few have enough self-discipline to maintain a highly regimented diet to help one lose weight. But according Lucy Danzinger, there are some foods you can regularly consume on top of your normal eating habits, to support your exercise regime to lose weight (because we all know half the battle of the bulge is in exercising, the other in eating), which are:

(i) Almonds – high in alpha-linolenic acid, which accelerates metabolism of fats (proven in studies)
(ii) Berries – full in Vitamin C to boost your energy for working out
(iii) Cinnamon – prevents an insulin spike, which induces body to store fat
(iv) Tumeric – may slow the growth of fat tissues
(v) Oranges – contains fat-blasting compounds called flavones
(vi) Soybeans – rich in choline, a compound that blocks the absorption of fat and breaks down fatty deposits. However, may be a risk to those who possess breast cancer genome.
(vii) Sweet potatoes – high-fibre content keeps insulin steadier than normal potatoes (refer to cinnamon)
(viii) Swiss cheese – high in calcium, which reduces fat-producing enzymes & increases fat breakdown

It might be a fluke, but I personally believe in oranges because a couple of months ago, when my colleagues were falling prey to the flu, I had resorted to drinking orange juice everyday to keep me healthy. And I did notice a slight drop in my weight, despite maintaing my routine of going randomly to the gym.
